Emma was among those shown at Granny's with the words "And they all lived happily ever after" displayed on the screen. In the Season 6 finale entitled "The Final Battle," several characters reached their endings. However, by the end of the season, Hook is returned to life (thanks to the rare beneficent act by Zeus, of all beings).Įmma found her happy ending with Killian Jones, the Once Upon a Time character based on Peter Pan's antagonist Captain Hook. She kills Hook, sending him to Hades in the Underworld. In keeping with the themes of the series, but to some fans' consternation, Emma is freed of the Dark One persona in an act of love and sacrifice. She becomes "the Dark One," and attempts to unite a magical dagger and the mythical sword Excalibur in a bid to become invulnerable and all-powerful. Towards the end of the series' run, Emma gains another, more sinister, destiny. Eventually, Emma and her family must team up with the town villains to stop a plot to destroy magic forever. Gold, Rumplestiltskin, locate his son Baelfire, who turns out to be Henry's father. The plot thickens next season whem Emma is transported to the Enchanted Forest and has to travel back to Storybrooke. It also allows Snow White and Prince Charming to, finally, recognize their daughter. This allows the townsfolk to remember their previously magical lives. Emma kisses him, restoring him to life and breaking the curse. In a subversion of the "true love's kiss" trope, Herny ultimately consumes poison meant for his birth mother, dying. She (literally, via magic) crushes his heart, paving the way for Emma to take over his role in the town. Emme is eventually deputized by the town sheriff, the Huntsman from Snow White, who eventually turns on his queen. This, more than anything else, inspired her to stay in Storybrooke. When Emma returned Henry to Regina, the woman (who still had her memories) threatened her to leave town. The Evil Queen then adopted the name Regina as Storybrooke's mayor and Henry's adoptive mother. While fans may have wanted the series to continue, without its central character the show lost some of the magic that made it such a success.Įmma had been transported from the Enchanted Forest to the Land Without Magic shortly after her birth, just before the Evil Queen cast the curse. There were many breakout characters, most notably Rumplestiltskin and Captain Hook - the show's resident "hot baddies" - as well as Prince Charming and, of course, Emma Swan. Imbued with mystery and its own mythology, the series reminagined fairy tale characters audiences had seen before. Patton: When Once Upon a Time first launched, Kitsis and Horowitz were coming off the success of another ABC Network drama, Lost. Fans wonder if the producers or Jennifer Morrison herself wanted Emma Swan's starring role reduced to a handful of guest spots. Emma's absence was the most notable, and Morrison only appeared in three episodes during the last season. When Season 7 debuted, several key characters were not seen as much and some were even outright missing. At the end of Season 6, the show inexplicably jumped ahead in time. Once Upon a Time aired for seven seasons from 2011 to 2018.
